We started the day in Memphis Tennessee and ended the day in Jackson Mississippi. We had several stops along the way. We began on Beale Street in Memphis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beale Street is an interesting combination of contradictions. First is the music. At the Orpheum Theatre there are stars on the street for some of the famous acts that have played there. We saw stars for Mae West, Jerry Lewis, and this one:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just down the street about 100 yards is BB King’s Club with a note on the street. While Chicago and BB King both have great music, their styles are definitely different. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is only a short walk from Beale Street to the Mississippi River. So we took a walk. The river was a little above its normal level today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Memphis we headed down I 55 toward Jackson Mississippi. When we crossed the state line, we stopped at the Mississippi Visitor’s Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We met a very nice man working at the visitor center. He helped us find the best pamphlets for our trip in Mississippi and then advised us about our trip to Louisiana and Alabama. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our next stop was lunch at a soda fountain established in 1946 as part of Brent’s Apothecary. The soda fountain has survived for 73 years. The pharmacy was sold in 2009. The reason the soda fountain has survived is the food is great. The ice cream was the best part of the meal. I ordered a dreamsicle shake. Marlene had a banana split which she shared with me. They were both delicious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our final stop was at the Mississippi State Capitol. It is difficult to describe how beautiful the building is. Everywhere we turned there was another picture to take. It is quite a place to visit. The people working in the building were very nice as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
