We began our day with a hike to Sol Duc Falls. The hike was a 1.6 mile loop trail. Sol Duc Falls has three parts to the falls. It was a fun hike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Sol Duc Falls, we headed out of Olympic National Park toward the Makah Indian Reservation. The reservation is located in the northwest part of Washington State.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Driving along the coast of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, we saw Canada to the north and interesting rock formations in the Strait.<\/p>\n<\/div>

When we arrived in Neah Bay on the Makah land, we purchased our pass to go to Cape Flattery. Then we stopped for lunch at a seafood restaurant. The fish and chips and the pastry were delicious. It was a short drive to Cape Flattery. The trail was well marked, shady and cool. There were plenty of flowers to see along the Trail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the point of Cape Flattery, there was amazing scenery and lots of wildlife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cape Flattery has a very rocky coast. To the left there are steep cliffs. To the right, the cliffs are not quite as steep but there are a lot of caves. Straight out from the cape there is an island with a lighthouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A short nerdy note: If you are a fan of the Microsoft photos for screen savers and lock screens, one of those screen shots came from Cape Flattery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We saw a selection of birds including a golden eagle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were also otters, sea lions, and seals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were also several whales in the area. We could only see the spouts from the whales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After we finished at Cape Flattery, we headed to Lake Ozette in Olympic National Park. When we got to the Ozette Ranger Station, we could not find any short hikes that we could finish before sunset. We drove around Lake Ozette for a while and then headed to our hotel in Seiku Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We stayed at Curley’s Resort & Dive Center. In spite of the name, the hotel was terrific. We had a great room and a nice view of the bay. They also had some unusual plants growing there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
