Today we begin a tour across the southern part of the United States. We will travel from North Carolina to California primarily following Interstate 10. Then we will return to North Carolina using Interstate 40 for much of the return trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will take us about four weeks to complete our journey.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Our first stop is the Georgia Capitol in Atlanta Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The capitol is a classic design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had an opportunity to see the Senate Chamber from the gallery and from the senate floor. We could only view the House Chamber from the gallery. We also got to see the old Supreme Court meeting place. It is now a meeting room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The interior of the building has a lot of columns and ornate decorations. You may notice we have several photos of the same staircase from different angles. You will see why when you get to the construction pictures later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We could only see about half of the interior because of construction. In Atlanta, they did a great job of keeping the capitol visible and clean during the rehab. The picture with the danger sign was the best picture we could get of the rotunda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both the interior and the exterior of the building had exquisite detailing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With some lucky timing, we got to see the true interior of the building. The structure has a lot of brick on the inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were numerous statues on the outside of the capitol. They included famous Georgians like Jimmie Carter and Martin Luther King Junior. There was a miniature Statue of Liberty. There were also several statues and monuments commemorating events in Georgia’s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By tradition, every state received a copy of the Liberty Bell. We found the one for Georgia across the street from the capitol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
