It was a short drive from Grantham New Hampshire to Montpelier Vermont to see the Vermont Capitol. The building is one of the smaller capitols that we have seen.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vermont is a small small state with under 1,000,000 in population. It was not surprising to see just a few seats in the Senate. The real surprise was the 150 members in the House. With that many members, they have less than 5,000 constituents per member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It makes sense that a small state would have a smaller capitol building. While small, the interior and exterior were very well appointed and maintained.<\/p>\n<\/div>

There were stained glass windows, lots of artwork, and beautiful grounds on the outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the capitol, we headed to Franconia Notch State Park in New Hampshire. It was an interesting drive. Interstate 93 passes by and through the park. The portion of Interstate 93 that goes through the park is a single lane in each direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The park is relatively small. It has a relatively easy hike through a narrow passageway where the granite has split. The boardwalk makes it possible to hike through the notch so that you can see details that otherwise would be very difficult to reach. The hike includes several waterfalls and cascades that are very accessible. We also saw an interesting tree that had grown around a large boulder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Franconia Notch, we drove part way toward Augusta Maine and spent the night at Intervale New Hampshire.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
