This morning we did a walking tour of the historic portion of Charleston, South Carolina. The southern tip of the peninsula is primarily older two and three story residences. Some of the main streets have business and government buildings as well. It was a perfect morning for a walk through the area. Here is a sample of some of the buildings that we saw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the residences, we walked by the Charleston City Market. In Waterfront Park, we saw several fountains and some statues. We also got to see an unusual weather phenomenon. For a short time, there was a very low fog bank on the river that blocked the view of the lower portion of the bridge but left the top of the bridge visible. It was weird to see the top of the bridge floating free in the sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We normally see flowers on our hikes. Today was extraordinary. In December, in Charleston, we saw perhaps the widest variety of flowers we have ever seen in a single day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we were about half way through our walk, the weather began to turn. It got cloudy and began to drizzle. It looked like rain was coming. We were about as far from the parking garage as our hike was going to take us. Rather than complete the rectangle we were walking around the town, we decided walk as directly as we could back to our car. It did begin to rain before we got all the way back, but then it paused. We managed to get back to the car without getting too wet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a great walk and a great tour of Charleston. Once we were in the car, we headed for home. Another exciting, adventurous, and educational trip across our blessed country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
