Welcome to Iowa, the land of corn and silos. The Iowa Capitol was undergoing some outside rehab. It is still an impressive building, even with the scaffolding blocking part of the view. The details in the artwork on the outside were different because the figures were separated from the wall making them look more realistic.
We returned to Minnesota today to see the capitol, a waterfall, and the Mall of America. In this part of the state, we saw more cropland. We also saw the Mississippi River. We had driven north of the Mississippi on our way west. We got to see how the underpasses and bridges in St. Paul
We had a change in plans today. We discovered that the Minuteman Missile site we were going to visit is closed on Tuesdays. So we had an opening in our schedule. We did not need to get up early to have time for the missile site. It was nice to get to sleep a little
Our first stop today was the North Dakota capital building in Bismarck. It is one of four capital buildings in the United States that has a large central tower. This design was chosen here because it was built during the depression. This style building was less expensive for the exterior. That left some extra funds
It was a beautiful day for a tour of the Kentucky capitol. The building is a classic design on gorgeous grounds. The dome was being rehabbed. Today we begin a quick six day trip to Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, Kentucky, and West Virginia. It is a beautiful day for traveling. When we got to the mountains, the day was still clear, but the temperature was dropping. We saw some snow in the mountains. We stopped in Charleston, West Virginia for some barbeque.
