April 21, 2019 : Trip 1, Day 7 – Cloudland Canyon, Georgia

Today was another park and waterfall day. We toured Cloudland Canyon State Park in Rising Fawn, GA. While we traveled over 45 miles from Chattanooga, TN to get to this park we were still driving up Lookout Mountain to see this park. Lookout Mountain is only about 2300 feet tall, but it covers a lot of territory.

Already in Georgia.

Perhaps you have determined by now that we enjoy seeing waterfalls. You would be correct. Based upon the crowds we see on the trails, we are not the only ones that enjoy them. Cloudland Canyon is a small canyon. but it is packed with great views, sights and sounds.

This picture shows the beauty of the canyon, from where this photo is taken you can hear the sound of the two waterfalls, Cherokee and Hemlock. Before we descended into the canyon, we took pictures of the falls from above,

This is Hemlock Falls

and Cherokee Falls.

These views are magnificent. The views from below are just as good. First, We had to climb down the cliffs. Fortunately, the park has built steps to help with the descent and return.

Unfortunately, there are six hundred steps to the bottom. So we got to go down a set of steps like this 60 times. On the way back we got to go up the same 60 flights of stairs. It was a good workout, and worth the effort. Here is a view of Hemlock Falls from the bottom of the falls.

It was a short walk to Cherokee Falls where we saw this.

Tomorrow we will visit a few more parks and waterfalls. Then we will change gears and begin the city and museum tours portion of our trip.
