Today was the first day of our first journey to see all the National Parks and all the state capitals in the United States.
We have been to some of the National Parks and some of the state capitals in the past, but we are starting all over today. Today’s travels took us to Great Smoky Mountain National Park and Gatlinburg, TN.
We got to travel through a short tunnel on interstate 40.
We entered Great Smoky Mountain National Park today.
We traveled on the Gatlinburg bypass to see the town from above. We saw the town below and a snow capped Mt. Leconte above. It was quite a view.
Snow capped mountains to the left. (Mt Leconte)
Gatlinburg hiding in the mountains.
We got to see Gatlinburg and the mountains from the by pass.
We have a great room at the hotel where we are staying. Our seventh floor balcony overlooks a large stream that has many small rapids.
Our room is on the top floor, at the far end of the building on the left.
Not bad for a first day of a first trip.
