Today is our second day in Walt Disney World. We are spending the day at the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, EPCOT. We began our day in Future World West .
Our first stop was at the Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival. It was a unique combination of old Disney cartoons and Pixar technology. The 3D glasses added to the enjoyment of the short films.
Next we went to Journey into Imagination with Figment. The ride has been updated and includes aspects of all the previous versions of the ride. Figment is still an entertaining character that challenges you to see things differently.
We toured The Land next.
This part of Future World West shows some of the cutting edge technologies of today and presents some of the changes we should expect in the future. It also includes the ride Soarin’ which is similar to an Imax theater, except you are Soarin’ in a seat that interacts with the movie on the screen.
After the Land, we toured The Seas with Nemo and Friends. The tour was great. The displays at the end of the tour were impressive, but it was time for us to use our Fast Pass at Spaceship Earth.
Our ride through Spaceship Earth reviewed the developments from the beginnings of man’s history to today. The ride highlighted important advances and inventions throughout history. At the end of the ride, you had a chance to enter your interests for the future. Part of our choice was to explore space. The last part of the ride used our selections and a picture taken early in the ride to show our “future”.
One of the displays in Spaceship Earth’s look into the future was a driving video game. Of course, Steve had to try it. Marlene drove the course one time as well.
We then began a walk around EPCOT. EPCOT has an International Flower and Garden Festival underway. The park is filled with displays of flowers and topiaries. Here are a few of the dozens we saw.
While walking around the World Show Case, we stopped at the Mexico display to ride The Gran Fiesta Tour and had a tasty lunch at the Mexican counter service restaurant. At The American Adventure, we heard the Voices of Liberty. They presented an excellent performance of well known patriotic music sung a cappella.
On our return to Future World, we rode Soarin’, Figment, and Spaceship Earth one more time. We decided to go back to the hotel then because Marlene’s sore ribs were making it painful for her to walk. It was another great day at Walt Disney World, even though Marlene’s ribs were very sore.
