Today was a day full of surprises. We drove from Marquette, Michigan to Lutsen, Minnesota so that we would be close to Grand Portage Minnesota for our boat ride to Isle Royale tomorrow.
Our first surprise was a rainy morning. It appeared we were in for a long day on the road.
Fortunately, the rain cleared very quickly, so the day turned out to be a good drive.
We had no expectation of seeing a tunnel in Minnesota. Especially one with such a beautifully decorated entrance.
We arrived too early to get into our cabin so we asked what we could do while we waited. We found out we were next door to a state park with a multi-level waterfall. They gave us a map of a short hike to see the falls. They said the room would be ready when we returned.
They told us where our cabin was located so that we could park our car before going on the hike. When we parked next to our cabin, we found we had a spectacular view of Lake Superior from our cabin.
It took about twenty minutes to hike to the waterfall. It was beautiful. We took six different pictures to capture the falls from the top to the bottom. What a great way to spend our time while our cabin was prepared for the night.
While we were hiking to the waterfall, we saw several varieties of flowers and plants. Here is a sample of what we saw.
Here are a couple of views of Lake Superior that we saw on our way back to our cabin.
We had many wonderful surprises today. The last one was the restaurant next to the Lodge where we stayed. They had really good food. A good meal was a great end for a day full of surprises.
