August 14, 2023 : Trip 11, Day 21 – Yellowstone National Park: Fairy Falls Trail

During our drive to the Fairy Falls hike, we saw a bison very close to the road. We also saw yet another field of steam vents.

Our hike to Fairy Falls went through a diverse selection of biomes. We saw volcanic activity, a wooded trail, mountain view, a river, and an isolated steam pool.

We also got to see the Emerald Pool at Black Sand Basin from a higher viewpoint on our hike.

The diversity of life we saw included deer on the way to the falls, a begging squirrel during lunch at the falls, and a mother grouse and her chicks on our return trip.

To add to the collection of things we saw, here is a sample of the flowers we saw along the way.

With all that we saw on the hike, the main attraction was still Fairy Falls. The falls appear magically from the top of a hill. Because of the shadows from the hill, almost every view of the falls appears to be a different color. The pool at the bottom of the falls is very inviting. It is a magical place. It is easy to see why it is called Fairy Falls. We spent almost an hour enjoying the falls from different places.

It was a long and worthwhile hike. The array of things we saw made the hike go by quickly. When we finished our hike, we were ready to go back to the lodge for the night.
