August 17, 2023 : Trip 11, Day 24 – Grand Teton National Park: Coulter Bay and the Northern Park

Our first hike today was the Lakeshore Trail on Coulter Bay. On our way to the lake we saw a deer, a chipmunk, and a Western Tanager

We also saw a wide variety of flowers.

When we reached the lake, we saw gorgeous mountains rising from the opposite side of the lake. We took a close up of the stones on the beach to show the amazing color selection in the stones.

On our hike at Lunch Tree Trail, we saw rugged mountains and more flowers.

We stopped at Jackson Lake Dam to see the reflections of the mountains in a large lake. The water was almost calm so we could see some reflections. We also saw the release rate for the water below the dam.

Here is our first attempt at a panoramic view of an area. First, we have the still panoramic view.

Then we have the movable 3D view of the same photograph.

If you mouse click the moving panorama, the motion will stop then you can manually control the motion. To restart the motion, move off of the page and come back.

We visited the Oxbow Bend Turnout to see the mountains from a distance. As a bonus, we got to see thick foliage and flowers that are fed by the river. It created an amazing view both for distance and for up close.

Our drive to Cunningham Cabin gave us terrific views of the mountains and the prairies of the Grand Tetons.

Cunningham Cabin is an abandoned homestead now located in the national park. It is easy to be jealous of the views from the homestead. However, the accommodations fall a little short compared to today’s standards.

At Teton Point Turnout, we had a spectacular view of the mountains. We also got to see the Snake River down at the bottom of the valley. It seems oxymoronic to call it a valley when the elevation is above 6500 feet.

Schwabacher Landing was an interesting stop. We drove down a dirt road to a short hike along a stream that turned into a series of ponds. We saw ducks, wading birds and even a dragon fly.

Schwabacher Landing is so beautiful, it is hard to take a bad picture. The stream and the ponds were still so we were able to capture some gorgeous mountain and water pictures.

We spotted some wild horses on our drive to Signal Mountain Lodge.

We ordered take out pizza from a local (20 miles away) restaurant. It was delicious. The location helped us enjoy our meal as well.
