When we were planning this trip, we had a choice to take the interstate system for the shortest ride, or to take the “back roads of Kentucky” and spend about 30 minutes extra driving a few less miles. You can see below what we picked, but it is not what you think. We chose the back roads.
While most of this section of the trip looked like interstate highway, we got to see things you do not normally see on an interstate. This included unusual hillside views.
Some two lane roads cut through rock as well.
Lots of empty roads,
And a very large motorcycle club of over 30 riders.
Later in the day, we were back on the interstate system. The expected extra time for our travel did not occur, probably because the traffic was so light on the back roads that day.
It was great to see the vistas on Interstate 77 as we headed through the mountains. It was also nice to be able to sleep at home that night. See you again on our next trip.
