May 2, 2019 : Trip 1, Day 18 – Tallahassee, Florida

We finished our visit in Panama City Beach with a round of Goofy Golf. You might call it miniature golf, but there is nothing miniature about this course. Marlene had played on the course during previous visits to Panama City Beach so we decided to play the course again.

Marlene won the round of golf, but she had the home course advantage.

After a round of Goofy Golf, we headed to Tallahassee to see the new and old capitol buildings. The first thing we noticed was the fancy walking entrance into the parking garage.

The Glass Dome in the center of the picture is the walking entrance into the capitol parking garage.

The new capitol building is only a short walk from the parking garage. It has a large tower for the legislative offices and a large first few floors for the Senate and House Chambers and the Governor’s office.

We first went to the top of the building to see the observation deck and the art displays.

After that we went to the fifth floor to see the house and senate in session.

First we saw the Senate Chamber, then the House Chamber.

We then went to the first floor to see the Governor’s office and the welcome center entrance to the building.

We then went out the front door of the new capitol to visit the old capitol building which is now a museum. They have restored the old capitol to the way it looked in 1902.

Inside the museum is a variety of historic information about the old capitol and some interesting displays about current issues in Florida.

One of the displays allows you to picture yourself in the current fashion of the early 1900s.

They also have a monument to police officers and firefighters. just outside the old capitol.

We finished the day at a seafood restaurant that had an all you can eat popcorn shrimp special. The shrimp was too good. It was also much larger than popcorn. We did not need any dessert after that meal.
